Keeping up with your six-month cleanings and checkups will ensure that your teeth and gums are looking and feeling their best. During a standard cleaning, our hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from the surface of your teeth. She’ll also polish your teeth and floss to test the condition of your gums.

Dr. Cherian will then perform a thorough examination, including a visual assessment, an evaluation of your current restorations, a review of any X-rays that were taken, and a screening for early signs of gum disease and oral cancer.

    Digital X-rays & Intraoral Cameras

We incorporate digital X-rays and intraoral cameras into all of our routine exams, because many serious issues with the teeth and jawbones can't be seen by the naked eye.

Digital X-rays are faster and more comfortable than traditional X-rays, and they emit significantly less radiation. Because they don't require any harsh chemical processing, the images are available within seconds.

We use our intraoral cameras to show you exactly what we see during your exam. Photos taken with these cameras also give Dr. Cherian a clearer view of hard-to-see areas like the back molars.

    Gum Disease & Periodontal Health

According to the CDC, half of American adults currently have some degree of gum disease. Gum disease has two main stages: gingivitis, the early stage characterized by mildly inflamed gums that bleed when you floss; and periodontitis, the more severe stage that can pose a serious risk not just to your mouth, but to you entire body. Gingivitis is completely reversible if it’s caught early enough, but untreated periodontitis can lead to infections, tooth loss, and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Routine cleanings are just as important for your gums as they are for your teeth. Dr. Cherian also offers many advanced gum treatments, including gentle gum disease therapy and local antibiotics that will protect your smile for years to come.

    Fixed Bridges

If you’re missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge can close the embarrassing gap and give you the confidence to show off your smile again. A traditional bridge is a single restoration made up of three parts: two crowns, which are permanently attached to the teeth on either side of the gap, and an artificial tooth in the middle. Bridges look and feel like natural teeth, and with routine checkups and proper home care they can last for a very long time.

    Tooth-Colored Fillings

Filling cavities is one of the most important services Dr. Cherian provides at Grace Dental Smiles. The sooner he can find and fill cavities, the more conservative your treatment will be—and the less likely you’ll be to need more extensive treatment later on! Because many cavities can’t be seen during a standard visual exam, Dr. Gallagher uses the Diagnodent® laser to provide the most comprehensive exam possible. Diagnodent emits low-intensity laser energy that reacts with even the smallest amount of decay, giving our team the ability to find cavities early and treat them before they get bigger.

Dr. Cherian fills cavities using tooth-colored composite materials that can be easily bonded to your tooth’s surface. Composite fillings require less extensive preparation than silver fillings, so the results are often smaller and more natural looking. The durable composite material is shaped and polished to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your tooth, so no one—not even you!—will notice a difference in your smile.

    Root Canal Therapy (Endodontics)

When a tooth is cracked, broken, or severely decayed, the nerves and tissues inside of the tooth can become infected. If the infected tissue isn’t removed with a root canal, it can cause an abscess or even spread the infection to surrounding teeth.

Root canal therapy is a highly successful restorative procedure that can save a damaged tooth from extraction and protect it for years. Although they have a reputation for being painful, the truth is that the toothaches caused by an infected tooth are probably causing you more pain than a root canal will!

    Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that develop much later than our other teeth—usually between the ages of 15 and 25. Some people are lucky enough to have their wisdom teeth come in straight, right-side up, or not at all, but most of us aren’t. Because wisdom teeth are the last permanent teeth to erupt, there is often not enough room left to accommodate them. The lack of space can cause wisdom teeth to come in sideways, only partially erupt, or become impacted within the gums. Impacted wisdom teeth pose a risk to your oral health as well, including:
    • Abscesses & Gum Infections
    • Jaw Pain & Headaches
    • Damage to the Jaw Bone
    • Shifting of Permanent Teeth
    • Removing questionable wisdom teeth early is usually the safest and most conservative treatment option. Dr. Cherian will evaluate the status of your wisdom teeth with a visual exam and panoramic X-rays. If he finds that they’re not erupting properly, he will thoroughly explain your options for removal and design a treatment plan that addresses your needs.

      Tooth Extractions

Our goal at Grace Dental Smiles is to help you enjoy a lifetime of optimal oral health. One of the most important ways we do that is helping you keep your natural teeth strong and healthy for as long as possible. While we will do everything in our power to avoid extracting a tooth, some conditions (including trauma and severe decay) require an extraction to protect the integrity of the surrounding teeth.

If you do end up needing an extraction, Dr. Cherian will thoroughly explain the process to you and make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

      Beautiful Custom Dentures

Many people who have lived with loose or uncomfortable dentures for years think that slipping, clicking, and messy adhesives are just a fact of life. Think again! You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the outstanding comfort and quality of the dentures we provide here at Grace Dental Smiles.

      Nightguards for Teeth Grinding

Do you find yourself clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth when you’re stressed? What about when you’re asleep? Involuntary teeth grinding can do a number on your teeth and jaw muscles, and because it usually occurs during sleep many people don't even know they're doing it. A comfortable, custom-fitted nightguard can give your jaw a rest and protect your oral health.

      Headache Prevention with NTI

Night-time teeth grinding has also been linked to chronic daytime headaches and migraines. The NTI device is a small, FDA-approved mouthpiece that fits securely on your upper or lower front teeth to prevent grinding and let your jaw and head muscles relax.

      Treatment for Sleep Apnea

If you or someone you love suffers from chronic snoring, you know that it can be a real nuisance. But did you know that snoring is also a sign of sleep apnea, a dangerous sleep disorder that disrupts normal sleep patterns and poses serious risks to your overall health? During sleep, the muscles in the mouth, jaw, and throat naturally relax. However, for the millions of Americans with obstructive sleep apnea, these muscles become so relaxed that they collapse and obstruct the airway, making it difficult to breathe. The decreased flow of oxygen caused by sleep apnea usually results in sudden, repeated awakenings throughout the night and a poor quality of sleep. Common signs of sleep apnea include:

      • Loud Snoring
      • Gasping or Choking for Air During Sleep
      • Severe Daytime Drowsiness or Fatigue
      • Morning Headaches (From blood pressure or from jaw clenching)
      • Chronic heartburn
      • If any of these symptoms sound familiar, sleep apnea could be to blame. Untreated sleep apnea has been linked to an increased risk of stroke, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and uncontrolled diabetes. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for your overall health and well-being. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Cherian today so he can help you find relief!
